My time at Primeros Pasos offered me the chance to forge connections and provide health services across cultural lines. Working alongside my Guatemalan counterparts, I furthered my medical training while gaining exposure to ailments not often encountered in the US.  The staff at the clinic are very warm and supportive; a truly family-like atmosphere is pervasive.  For anyone looking to improve their medical Spanish, I can think of no better opportunity. The communities of the Palajunoj valley have extensive, unmet, health needs and I felt honored to make some small contribution towards addressing that discrepancy.
